Wish List Wednesday {my NEXT shoe}

Last week we had a long appointment for Eva in the morning and I ended up taking the day off from blogging.  Therefore I never posted a #WLW post.  Today, I kind of forgot that it was Wednesday.  I don’t want to miss another week!  I have a few things on my wish list still but I’ll pick a quick and easy item that I want but won’t need for a little while yet –  My next pair of running shoes.

I currently wear Mizuno Wave Rider 17s.  I like them very much and really have no reason to want to switch.  In fact, I don’t plan to.  I do, however, want a different color!  Yes, I am one of those annoying people who loves neon for my running at fitness gear.

This is the color I wanted originally but was advised that they were not available (at the running shop where I purchased my shoes anyway) until something like March 5th.  I needed them before that.  It was February 8th when I purchased the ones I have.  I could have waited a week or two but certainly not a month.  I still do not see them as available on the Mizuno website but I suppose that doesn’t matter; I wouldn’t be shopping from their site most likely anyway.

I’m still many, many miles from needing a new pair of running shoes so these bad boys will not grace my feet for quite some time… if they ever do.  Who knows, they might not even be available any longer once I need a new pair.  Maybe there will be another awesomely annoying neon color for me to love!

What’s currently on your wish list?  Do you love or hate neon?  How many miles do you usually put on your shoes before you get a new pair?

Couch-to-5k Progress – 3.10.14 {+ Weekend Recap}

Week 4 Day 1 – Complete

Although you wouldn’t know it because my C25k app had an attitude today.

First, I somehow missed a walk cue.  Today’s run was supposed to go like this: 5min warm-up walk, 3min jog, 1.5min walk, 5min jog, 2.5min walk, 3min jog, 1.5min walk, 5min jog, 5min cool-down walk.  I missed the second 1.5min walk cue.  After that I was all out of sorts.  The last 1/3 of my run did not follow the training at all.

Then, as I was on my cool-down I decided to check my text message that came through while I was jogging.  For some reason when I went back to the app, it was on the home page as if I never even started the training.  So there is no record for today.  Good thing JAG tracked it for me!

Today was absolutely beautiful!  A lovely 54 degrees and sunny!  It was pretty easy to get out and get today’s training done.  My 3min jog was hardly noticeable.  The 5min jog did get to me a little but will probably not be noticeable by this time next week… so long as we keep the nice weather.

Warm weather brings lots of puddles since all of the snow is melting.  There were a few that I didn’t mind splashing through, but there were also a few that were pretty deep and I tried to avoid.  Key word tried.  I ended up getting my feet wet pretty early on and they just kept getting more and more squishy.  Somehow, I didn’t seem to mind it too much.

As you’ll notice above, I set my fastest mile to date and my longest trip out.  To celebrate I took a shameless selfie with the little monkey man.  Why yes, I am wearing a tie-dyed shirt.  I made that shirt with/for my brother about 13 years ago.  I don’t think he ever wore it and he ended up giving it to me a year later.  I’ve given that shirt a lot of love in the time since.  For those people who hate tie-dye, I’m sorry for your lack of fun!  😉

Weekend Recap

40 Days of Active: Day 4 – Walk around Target playing zoom-cart.  That’s where I zoom the cart around like it’s a race car to make William laugh!  Hey, it’s better than sitting on my butt all day!  I also got some new workout buddies that I will introduce you to sometime this week!

40 Days of Active: Day 5 – We took a nice family walk over to the dollar store.  I carried Eva girl so I’d definitely count that as a work out!  That little one gets heavy when she falls asleep and is dead weight.

OH!  And I got this dude in the mail this weekend!

I agonized over having to make a decision on which Road ID I wanted.  I really loved the teal Slim but I did NOT want to stretch a silicone band over my wrist on and off each day.  I’m not usually a purple loving gal but I ended up with purple because I like that it was more of a berry color.  The yellow, blue, and green (which would have been my other choices) were more primary and I just liked this berry color a little more.

I looked like a real runner today!

Week 2 Day 2 – Complete

image

This was by far the coldest and hardest day yet.  I doubled up on all of my clothing.  Double socks, tight capris under my running tights, hooded long sleeve over my running top, and there were still stretches when I wanted to stop and just go back inside.  Then I’d get around the bend into the sun and be okay.  One of the hardest parts was that my fingers froze almost immediately; before I was even done with my warm up walk.  I had a hard time keeping them warm.  Another was that I decided to wear my neck gaiter.  It’s hard to say if that was a good idea or bad idea.  Although it did block the wind at some points, it also kept in a bunch of moisture around my face which made it even more cold when the cold air hit me.  It fogged up my sunglasses with my hot breath so that I couldn’t see.  Since the gaiter was moist and it was so dang cold out, the it turned into a gaiter-cicle.  Now that I think about it… probably just a bad idea.

So far I really like my Garmin.  There are discrepancies between the Garmin and my C25k app because I couldn’t set my 5 minute warm-up and 5 minute cool-down walks on the Garmin.  So the Garmin only tracked the 21 minutes of 1:30 run / 2:00 walk intervals.  I can’t wait until I get to the point where there no more walk intervals!

Oh and you might notice that I switched out my neon yellow laces for neon green laces.  More on that in a future post…

Step One

So I’ve decided to become a runner.  Or rather, I’ve decided to try to become a runner.  I spent a couple of months debating on how I wanted to get active again after spending too much of the time since the babies were born being completely inactive.  I considered at home workout DVDs that cost more money than they are worth since I probably wouldn’t follow through with no one keeping me accountable.  I looked up yoga classes that didn’t fit into my schedule and cost money that we really don’t have.  Then I saw The Color Run “liked” on Facebook for about the fifth time when I thought, “I could run”.  Sure, I’ve pretty much always hated running but I’ve never had a reason to love it.  I’ve never had anything to work for.  That’s when I decided to look at the events calendar for The Color Run and also do a little research into some kind of training program.  The Color Run was a little less than fourteen weeks away and the Couch to 5k program was a nine week program.  I thought, “I could actually do this”.  I text Ryan to tell him my new idea wondering if he’d laugh at me.  He, however, did not laugh at all.  He was incredibly supportive and even said he’d run with me.  (He’s awesome; I love him.)  So I mentally committed.  I was going to do it.  I was so glad to find something that I was going to do for me.  Now starts my journey to becoming a legit runner.
